Fans of BMW can rejoice – the all new 1-Series is finally here and ready to propel you to new levels of excitement.
In a simpler form, the car bears a strong resemblance to the current 3-Series, but is lighter and not as bulky. The 1-Series (starting at $26K) will come in two models, each in a coupe or convertible; the 128i and the 135i. The 125i is the base model with the 230-horsepower engine, sharing an engine with the larger 321i; however, the 135i is the real icing on the cake, featuring a mean, twin-turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that cranks out 300-horsepower and 3oo lbs/ft of torque. The optimal active steering makes driving more engaging, matching each turn you take with the steering it requires – during low speeds, steering becomes nimble and light; at higher speeds, it becomes more firm for ultimate responsiveness. Either choice comes with a 6-speed manual or optimal 6-speed automatic transmission. The iDrive (an-all-in-one) computer-like system for controlling amenities like the AC, radio and nav systems has been revamped for easier use. Simply walking toward the new 1-Series is intimidating – the sleek, muscular build, the anticipation of what’s about to transpire, not to mention the plush leather interior and all the accoutrements that come standard in a BMW. We can’t wait to tune in.
